*Assistant Professor of Theatre (Acting)*
Coastal Carolina University, Department of Theatre, invites applications for
a tenure-track position in Acting at the Assistant Professor level. The
Department seeks a dedicated teacher in the area of performance who can
provide leadership in the areas of acting, and supervising student
directors. This individual would have experience in a variety of acting
techniques but should have the ability to teach a well defined contemporary
realistic technique to beginning actors. The candidate should have
experience teaching movement for the actor (i.e. Grotowski, Lecoq,
Meyerhold, Suzuki), and another skill area such as stage combat, vocal
production for the actor, circus skills and/or dance. Above all, this
candidate should display a willingness to work in a collaborative spirit
among a team of faculty with varied approaches.
Responsibilities include teaching all levels of acting, Introduction to
Theatre, and possible courses in other areas of expertise. The candidate
will be expected to direct at least one main-stage production each year.
Experience directing for the Musical Theatre is a plus. University service
and ongoing professional creative activity are expected.
Preferred qualifications: MFA in Acting, professional experience, and a
minimum of two years university/conservatory teaching experience.
Professional union affiliations such as SSDC and/or AEA are highly
desirable.
