Important News and Changes
>From Sandi Zielinski and Tom Mitchell
Welcome back to the beginning of school and all that that brings! Tom
and I returned from the summer chairs meeting with KCACTF. A lot of
good work was completed and energy expended. The good news is that NO
NEW CHANGES FOR THIS YEAR. However, please look under the
registration information for registering Participating and Associate
productions for the year for the Early Bird Special.
UPDATES
Terry Stump was inducted in the Dayton, Ohio, Theatre Hall of Fame
this summer. The region sends their best wishes on this most deserved
award for our fellow colleague. During the summer, Phylis Ravel
resigned from her position as NPP Chair. Phylis was diagnosed with
cancer and has undergone surgery; we wish her the best on her road to
recovery. Please feel free to send her a get well message at
phylis.ravel at marquette.edu. Sue Ott Rowlands has taken the Deanship
at Virginia Tech and so has left our region only to join another.
Michael Swanson has also moved east and will be the Theatre and Dance
Division Head of the Department of Fine and Performing Arts at
Elizabethtown College in Elizabethtown, PA. Each and every one
mentioned has given a tremendous amount of work and energy to the
region. We wish them well in all their endeavors.
As you can tell much shifting has gone on within the region. Please
extend congratulations to Ansley Valentine (College of Wooster) who is
the new co-vice chair with Kerro Knox (Oakland University), and Erik
Ramsey (Ohio University) is the new NPP vice-chair along with Steve
Reynolds (Wittenburg University) who will be joining us for another
year as the NPP chair. Laura Riddle (University of Wisconsin-Green
Bay) will be the new Wisconsin State Chair and Robert Ellis (Cuyahogga
Community College) will be the state chair for Ohio. Scott Irelan
(Augustana College) along with Kevin Trudeau (Lewis University) will
be working on dramaturgy. Our new members on the KCACTF Selection
Committee thus far are Connie Peterson from Marquette University in
Wisconsin, Robert Ellis from Cuyahoga Community College in Ohio and
Scott Irelan from Ausustana College in Illinois. So, please send out
congratulations and a welcome to all.
NEWS FROM THE NPP FRONT
The NPP chair and co-chair wishes to alert everyone that it is no
longer necessary to send hard copies to the NPP chair. Please submit
scripts ELECTRONICALLY. Information for sending the materials can be
found on the Region III website
REGISTRATION
The time to register your Participating and Associate productions with
KCACTF is NOW! You may register by going to the Region 3 website, or
directly to the national website
(<http://www.kcactf.org/>www.kcactf.org.)
Please be advised that the KCACTF national leadership has instituted
an "Early Bird" Financial Incentive for Festival 40. In short, this
incentive works as follows:
-If you REGISTER AND PAY for your production(s) prior to October 1,
2007, your registration cost will remain at the current rate ($225 for
Associate Productions; $300 for Participating Productions.) You may
(and are encouraged to) register ALL your productions for the 07/08
school year (September through May performances.)
-Registrations entered OR payments received after October 1, 2007 will
incur an additional $50 cost ($275 for Associate Productions; $350 for
Participating Productions.) So, if you register your production prior
to October 1, but payment is not received until after October 1, you
are subject to the additional fee.
-Payment—Paying with a credit card at the time you register your
production is the best and most efficient way to make payment. In
light of the deadlines noted above, if you must pay by institutional
check it is in your best interest to get the process started as soon
as possible. An electronic invoice will be sent immediately upon
completion of your production registration.
Why the "Early Bird" rate? The "Early Bird" program helps us to serve
your production response needs in a more efficient and effective
manner by working with respondents on scheduling well in advance of
the production. The "early bird" program also helps us to determine
our financial outlook early so we can plan our regional festival most
effectively. In the end, this allows us to keep these and other fees
as low as possible.
Finally—please note that this is not a "price increase." The
"regular" price of $225/$300 is still in effect. Please contact Sandi
or Tom if you have any questions.
Because of the 2006-07 Fee increase, and the new Early Bird policy, it
seems appropriate that Region 3 make a change in the policy of
reimbursing mileage to respondents. From now on, host schools will
not have to pay ½ of the mileage for respondents. The whole
reimbursement of respondent mileage will come from the regional
office. Mileage is reimbursed when the written response is received.
WEBMASTER
REGION III IS LOOKING FOR A NEW WEBMASTER. Ken Martin from KJGC
Design has helped us these many years to change the face of our web
page. He has put in countless hours to help make registration go more
smoothly for the festival so that we can register on line. However,
the time has come when we need to find another webmaster who will come
on-board. If you have any suggestions or individuals who might like
to be the Region III webmaster, please contact either Sandi Zielinski
(skzieli at ilstu.edu) or Tom Mitchell (tomitche at uiuc.edu) as soon as
possible.
