Central Michigan University Seeks a Chairperson for the Department of 
Communication and Dramatic Arts

AVAILABLE: July 1, 2007

RESPONSIBILITIES:  Provide administrative leadership for the Department 
of Communication and Dramatic Arts and teach one 3-hour course per 
semester.  Specific duties of the position include the following:

1.    Provide leadership for the department in a collegial and 
cooperative atmosphere
2.    Be responsible for departmental governance in accordance with 
department bylaws
3.    Be responsible for fiscal planning and implementation
4.    Be responsible for departmental personnel
5.    Represent and advocate for the Department to the College of 
Communication and Fine Arts, the University, and the broader community
6.    Participate in the development of curriculum, programs, and 
policies of the department
7.    Support the departmental co-curricular and extracurricular activities
8.    Collaborate with and assist the Area Coordinators, Director of the 
Basic Course, Director of University Theatre, Graduate Coordinator and 
the Director of Forensics
9.     Direct the operations of the departmental office
10.   Meet the requirements of Tenure/Promotion that are expected for 
all departmental faculty members   
11.   Collaborate with the college development officer on departmental 
development activities


QUALIFICATIONS:  A terminal degree in one of the program areas of the 
department (Communication or Theatre, Interpretation and Dance); 
previous effective administrative experience; demonstrated excellence in 
teaching; and a record of scholarly/creative activity are required.  
Significant involvement in national professional/academic organizations 
is preferred. 


RANK AND SALARY:  Associate/Full Professor. Tenured or tenure-track 
based on credentials and experience. Competitive salary; attractive

The Department of Communication and Dramatic Arts (CDA) includes the 
Theatre, Interpretation, and Dance Area (TID) and the Interpersonal and 
Public Communication Area (IPC). In addition, the department 
participates in interdisciplinary programs in Integrative Public 
Relations and Music Theatre. The TID Area has 16 faculty/staff and the 
IPC Area has 11 faculty and an active M.A. program. The department also 
employs several part-time temporary faculty and approximately 20 
graduate teaching assistants.  CDA has 300-350 undergraduate majors and 
minors and over 30 graduate students.

Established in 1892, Central Michigan University has a growing 
enrollment of about 28,000 students, including approximately 20,000 
students on the university's main campus.  Classified by the Carnegie 
Foundation as a Doctoral Research University, CMU is recognized for 
strong undergraduate education and a range of focused graduate and
