Position Description

Assistant/Associate Professor of Music Theatre and Music Theatre
Program Coordinator

The department of theatre and music theatre at Viterbo University
seeks an energetic, talented and visible music theatre specialist to
direct productions and teach music theatre acting techniques to
motivated undergraduate students in our highly regarded BFA music
theatre program.

The assistant or associate professor of music theatre is responsible
for curriculum and instruction in the BFA musical theatre program.
Responsibilities include teaching music theatre performance lab,
acting for singers, vocal coaching and audition techniques. Other
courses may include music theatre history and/or voice and diction.
The opportunity to develop and teach courses based upon specific
expertise and interests may also be available.

Music theatre at Viterbo is a rigorous training program for the
actor/singer/dancer with an emphasis on blending music and acting
skills. Non-instructional responsibilities will include leadership and
coordination of the Music Theatre BFA program and stage direction for
musical theatre productions—ability to music direct is highly
desirable. Student advising, mentoring and service to the university
are expected. Active assistance with recruitment of prospective
students is essential and will involve travel.

The successful candidate will be an artist who blends strong acting
and music skills, a passion for teaching, a collaborative spirit and
the enthusiasm and leadership to help elevate a regionally renowned
music theatre program to one of national distinction.

Terms of Employment: Assistant or associate professor, full-time,
probationary tenure-track appointment on a nine-month renewable
contract. Salary is competitive and based on qualifications and
experience.

Qualifications:

    *Advanced degree required (MFA with professional acting and/or
directing experience is preferred)
    *  Teaching experience (teaching at the university level preferred)
    *  Musical theatre stage direction experience required
    *  Ability to work collaboratively with undergraduate students,
staff and faculty
    *  Preference will be given to candidates with: music directing
and/or professional acting experience, and piano accompaniment skills.

University and Department Description:

Viterbo University is located in the southwest corner of Wisconsin in
the beautiful Mississippi River Valley. Viterbo has a growing
enrollment of nearly 2,000 students on a residential campus near the
La Crosse riverfront. The University is a regional leader in the fine
arts and has earned an exceptional reputation in nursing education and
teacher education.

Theatre and music theatre at Viterbo are combined in a dynamic
department that prepares students for careers in theatre. Our ten
full-time faculty and staff include three music theatre faculty, two
acting/directing faculty, a history and dramatic literature specialist
a scenic/lighting designer, costume designer, technical director, and
a full-time costume shop manager. The department enrolls approximately
80 undergraduate majors and offers BFA degrees in musical theatre,
acting, design and technical production, stage management, and BA/BS
degrees in theatre studies and theatre education respectively.
Admission to all department programs is by audition and/or interview
only. The department participates actively in the Kennedy Center
American College Theatre Festival.

The department is housed in the Viterbo Fine Arts Center, a
state-of-the-art facility that includes an 1100-seat proscenium
theatre, a 150-seat black box theatre, and a 175 seat recital hall.
Other spaces include a professional dance studio, a dedicated acting
studio, costume, property and scenic shops, and two design labs. The
music and art departments are also housed in the Fine Arts Center. See
